A Word of Welcome

Welcome to St. Matthew's webpage. Whoever you are and wherever you might be in your spiritual journey, we welcome you as fellow travelers to explore a deeper relationship with God and a stronger spiritual life.

St. Matthew's is a growing community of people from a variety of backgrounds – some are life-long Episcopalians, others are new to The Episcopal Church, and some are from different faith traditions. Some people are drawn to our ancient worship, which we hope is fresh, embracing and inclusive. Others sense the love of God in our intentional care for each other as seen by our strong Stephen Ministry program and for those less fortunate whom we serve by gifts of treasure and time. Through our Sunday school, St. Matthew's offers a safe and encouraging environment for young children and youth in their journey to adulthood. There is a place for you here!

Our hope is that if you choose to join with us on our spiritual journey at St. Matthew's, you will feel at home. The best way to learn what it's all about is to 'come and see'. Please join us for our Sunday morning worship services at 8:30 and 10:00AM. If you want to learn more about something, just ask. This parish church exists for you. We are all fellow travelers and members of the same family of God. No one belongs in this community more than you.

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Mission Statement

  • Live by faith
  • Serve generously
  • Love unconditionally
  • Welcome all

Save the Date:  The Rev. Dr. George L. Murphy, a theistic evolutionist with a Ph.D in physics from John Hopkins and a M.Div. from Wartburg Seminary will present a class on Science, Technology and God on Sunday, April 23rd after the 10am service.  George L. Murphy graduated from Ohio University in 1963 and received his Ph.D. in physics from Johns Hopkins for work on general relativity in 1972.   He taught and did research in physics and related subjects at Westminster College (PA), The University of Western Australia and Luther College for eleven years before entering Wartburg seminary. Ordained in 1983, he has served as a pastor in Lutheran and Episcopal congregations.  His first article on theology and science was published in 1977 and he has since published six books and numerous articles and continues to speak and lead workshops in this area.  Dr. Murphy has taught courses in theology and science at Lutheran seminaries in Columbus and Philadelphia with the goal, as in other work, of helping clergy and congregations to deal with issues raised by science and technology.  His most recent book is Models of Atonement: Speaking about Salvation in a Scientific World (Lutheran University Press, 2013), which discusses ways of understanding the saving work of Christ in an evolving world.
